The Victoria Arion Male Choir was formed in 2018 after the Arion Male Voice Choir founded in 1892 and the Victoria Male Voice Choir with roots back to 1908 decided to merge. The two choirs came to the realization that they could better fulfill their dreams of being “a community of men singing for health and joy” as one group rather than two. It is an exciting new venture which is already proving to be a great success both musically and organizationally.
We are currently under the music direction of Sean Lampard-Quicke who joined us for the 2020-2021 season, and our accompanist Jennifer Mitchell. The choir before Covid 19 usually did two community concerts and a number of care home concerts each year. Currently we are back to holding practices in person. Before that the choir met on Zoom and prepared two virtual concerts for residents and staff at care homes, and one public virtual concert, released in July 2021. The choir performed its first post-Covid public concert in Cordova Bay United Church in May 2022.
Our repertoire embraces a wide range of musical styles including spirituals, classical, Broadway, folk, rock and pop. We are an amateur non-audition choir that offers participation and training in vocal arts. The choir also supports choral scholars.
